8 Week old German Shepherd pup!!

Hey guys got a brand new German Shepherd pup just 8 weeks old!!
Im going to be doing half kibble half raw diet till he's 4 months then switch him entirely to raw...

I was just going to ask, am I fine with buying my meat from the local grocery store with bone & organs or should I buy a ground up mix from a butcher?

So far I fed him 1 cup kibble & 10 ounces of Chicken breast with bone... That's 4 meals
Half Cup
Half Cup
5oz
5oz and separated the bone equally between the two meals.
He got the bones down just fine isn't the slowest eater but isn't just swallowing his food so that's nice, his stool is a little running but not diarrhea & this is his first day as raw.

Any input or advice is greatly appreciated I'll try to get pics of this pup up asap!

Hi Nastybandz and Welcome

This way of feeding raw and kibble will not be balanced enough for a puppy who needs vital nutrients to develop correctly.

I would feed the correct amount of kibble divided into two meals (keeping the measurement in mind that the 3rd meal will be raw) and a commercially prepared BALANCED raw diet for the other.
This way you will have time to research EXACTLY how to put together a raw diet and supplements for a pup.

Here are 3 raw BALANCED diets, a locator of where to find a store that carries it and a calculator of how much to feed:
Bravo (it MUST be the Bravo Balance):
Discover Bravo Balance® Raw Diet | Frozen Raw Dog Food - Bravo Pet Food

Find a store: Find a Bravo Retailer - Bravo Pet Food

Northwest Naturals:
Dog Food ? Northwest Naturals
Find a store:
Store Locator ? Northwest Naturals

Primal: Complete Raw Diets for Pets: Canine Beef Formula

Find a store: Primal Pet Foods: Store Locator

Feeding calculator:
Feeding Calculator ? Northwest Naturals

You may find other commercially prepared brands in your area, but the description MUST SAY: meets the AAFCO standard for complete and balanced nutrition for all life stages.

Hope this helps and we'll be waiting for those pics!

Why do so many people recommend feeding commercial raw diets?
Is it hard to create a balanced diet from buying from the grocery store?

I saw a lot of people posting the commercial diets..
But then I also have seen people doing there own diets consisting of 80% Meat 10% Organ 10% Bone could I just take this approach?

Update on Raw

I cant post pics yet ! Two more posts lol
I went to the local pet store & bought some Vital Balanced Nutrition Raw Food...
I was concerned because it didn't have bone listed in the ingredients ?
However it says Meets the AAFCO standard for complete and balanced nutrition for all life stages.

I feed my dogs vital. But I mix it with their afternoon kibble. For kibble I feed Fromm grain free. All of my dogs have done really good with this. To feed just the vital alone you're looking at about $6.00 a pound. There are a lot of raw diets half that cost. I just don't have the time or knowledge to feed 4 dogs a home prepared raw diet. I use this vital protein. https://freshpet.com/products/vitalbeefandbisonrecipe/

I heard the chicken would be easier on the pups stomach... & he has eaten chicken before as well.\
The chicken is about 3$ a lb.
He seems to like it... I might mix with kibble but it wont be hard on his stomach switching foods?

This is Fresh Pet
......Not exactly the RAW food type I was referring to.

The grocery store does not have everything. You need to do A LOT of research to create a raw diet yourself ESPECIALLY for a young puppy and including supplements.

Curious to know how the raw diet is going so far. I have an 18 week old pup I am debating on swapping over to a raw diet as well as moving my two small dogs to a raw diet in the near future.
