Need quick advice on labor induction

My Collie breeder's Collie just passed a dead pup and there is no further labor. Vet said that all other pups are doing well and to bring her in for a Oxytocin shot tomorrow if labor doesn't start. If that doesn't work , it will a be a C-section. They don't want to wait any longer as she may never go into labor after the initial pup was born and the body responds as if the entire birth has happened, according to her vet.
Question: does anyone of you know a natural way to get this girl going? She is full term. Which acupressure points to use, exercise, herbal etc.

When is she due?

You can try posting on a FB page called Dog Breeding and Whelping Guidance, they are awesome there! I have read several accounts of females on that page who have delivered a deceased puppy up to 14 full days prior to the due date. With the rest of the litter arriving perfectly fine, as scheduled.

If she is otherwise fine, heartbeats are good and puppies are moving, I would work with your vet to do check ups every 12 hours, but otherwise she may be totally fine to deliver the rest naturally.

Apparently Raspberry leaf tea can cause contractions, but again, I wouldn't be in a hurry to induce labor if everything else is otherwise fine. Keep your vet on call for an emergency csection - but they may come in their own time perfectly fine :)

Thank you! I have passed it on. As a doula for human babies I advised the following for her: to encourage labor, take her for a walk, try to get her in different positions like have her stand up on a chair with her front feet only to encourage shifting the pups' position closer to the cervix by using gravity, have her gently turn circles (lure with treats). Gentle belly massage produces natural Oxytocin in women so maybe it helps her as well

Carnation condensed milk, white ice cream.

Please do not let them give oxytocin.

I lost a whole litter when my vet did this. The bitch was definitely in labor, but was not passing any puppies. So we did an x-ray to ensure there was no puppy blocking the birth canal, and then they gave oxytocin. and another oxytocin, then she gave me a third shot once I got her home, which I gave her. Nothing.

I took her back and she did a C-section. She told me that the pups were not ready, they did not make it, they also looked all bruised. Oxytocin can cause that bruising by making everything contract.

When I took her to the reproductive vet, and relayed what happened, he shook his head in frustration. He said, that you should not do a C-section without checking progesterone. My vet would have to send this out and get the results tomorrow -- not good enough, so for C-sections I go to the repro vet. He then said that there are safer drugs to use to get things going.

Please have your friend take the bitch to a repro-vet. With all the spay-neuter, and with reproductive specialists around, regular vets do not see enough labor and complications with labor. You are seriously better off with a seasoned breeder.

My vet wanted to give antibiotics to puppies that weren't thriving, eventhough they did not have a fever according to what they thought a puppy's temp should be. And when they put them in an incubator, they got their temperature up to 100 degrees. Their temp should have been no more than 97-98 on the outside. If I did not run those puppies up to the repro vet, I would have lost them.

I wouldn't wait until tomorrow either, if she passed a dead puppy today. I would go today to the reproductive vet, have the progesterone tested, get an ultra sound, and go from there. If the placentas are separating now, you will lose the puppies by tomorrow.

Wow, yes, a nursing puppy will help bring down the milk and cause things to contract and progress, but we don't often have two litters on the ground at once. Or I don't usually. Good call!

And I think we some times think things are progressing the way we want them to. I just had a first time bitch in stage one labor for 28 hours. I kept my cool and allowed her to progress naturally. She then delivered one pup every hour. Five healthy pups. I also gave oral calcium during and after. I believe the facebook page Canine fertility, neonatal and reproduction issues helped me remain calm and not jump the gun with her. Delivering a dead pup would change things a little and have me concerned though. Glad she kept her head and thought it through.
