Smile Southern Tier NY area searching for GSD breeders

I have been away from breeding for over 30 years after moving out west. I was a founding member of the Chemung Valley German Shepherd Dog Club, which seems to be gone now. I haven't been in the GSDCA since the 80s. I can't find any of the old members or breeders from around the Elmira, NY area.
I am looking for a stud within driving distance of Sayre, PA and having not much luck. I hope the people here can set me in the right direction and help me find some studs in the area.
I hope I didn't post this in the wrong area. LOL
Thanks for your help.

You mention GSDCA-- does that mean you're looking for an American Show line stud?

Define Driving distance. 2 hours? 3 hours? 1/2 hour?

I live near Sayre. I don't know of any reputable breeders in the area. There is a Schutzhund club in Binghamton that you could contact but I don't think any of their dogs were locally bought.

Thank you for your responses.
Jax08,
Driving distance? The closer the better, but we'll drive a couple hours if needed.
However, the shepherd belongs to my wife. I am trying to help find her a stud. She is almost 2 years old and it will be her first litter. My wife's main prerequisite is a stud fee of $500 or under, although pick of the litter would probably be ok with her. I understand this limits her options. But, She just wants to enjoy having a litter of puppies.

Emoore,
I originally got involved in shepherds through some friends that were in the show clubs. However I have always loved Schutzhund too. Our dog is not from a show line though.

I wish there was a way to locate all the available studs within a certain region. I can't seem to find such a site or method of search. She will be in heat soon so time is sort of important right now for her.
Thank you everyone.

Maybe your wife should skip this heat, wait another six months and educate herself on boodlines, work vs. show, Euro vs. American, and find the right stud for her bitch rather than selecting based on proximity and bargain price.

You say the female is "almost" 2 years old-- I take it she hasn't had her hip and elbow OFA certifications yet?

A LOT has changed with the breed in the last 30 years. And not all for the better. I drove 6 hrs one way(twice) for the last stud I used. I have only bred my bitch twice, and that was AFTER she was 24 months, after her OFA's on hips/elbow came back okay, after she was CERF'd, after she was cardiac cleared, after she had a title, after a suitable/compatible/complimentary stud was considered.

What bloodlines is your bitch? American show line, West German show line, working line? What is her pedigree? What are you looking for in a male to compliment her? What does she bring to the breed that is so special, that 300 other bitches dont?

Just some things to think about when looking for a stud.

Barb E,

LOL
I guess you just read the title of this thread and never read my first post. Otherwise you would have noticed I was a founding member of the Chemung Valley GSDC, which was recognized by the GSDCA at that time. We developed a really good educational program for all GSD owners.

If someone does not understand the season of their bitch they should not be breeding her. That is a no-brainer, wouldn't you say. There are already too many puppy mills around, ruining the breed.

I was looking for a stud, not knowledge of breeding. Please read posts carefully before asking silly questions.
