Default He CAN swim! 6 months

After trying relentlessly to get this boy in the pool, he decided today to take
his first swim in the lake. So far, he will only get on the top step of our pool. The one time we tried to get him in the pool, he splashed around like a crazy dog frantically trying to get out! Then today, while at the lake, my husband and kids were kayaking and he just decided to go in after them and swam like a champ! Now I hope he can transfer those skills when we get home so he can have swimming as an exercise over the hot summer months!

Do your GSD's like to swim?

yep. I can't keep my GSD pout of the pool. Any barrier we put up he finds away around or through. He is a water dog!

Mine loves the water, as well. I'm just a couple miles from a beautiful beach on Lake Michigan that has a portion sectioned off for dogs so we go there quite a bit. We hike through the dunes and then head to the beach. I'm not sure which she likes better... swimming, pouncing on the waves or digging holes in the sand. It's all fun!

Yes Ellimaybel, very going point that he would go in his on time. I am glad to hear that others have GSDs that love the water. He will definitely appreciate having a good way to cool down this summer.

Donnakay, sounds like you do have a happy dog! We have been camping this week and Samson has done his fair share of hole digging, swimming, hiking. He has slept well the past few nights for sure!

Hoby loves the water. Took a dip in an oversized plastic box at 8 weeks. At 3 months he plowed right in at the lake.

Took my pup to my dad's house at 12 weeks old, first time he saw a pool, made bee line for it and jumped right in.

Wow those that have water dogs are lucky! We tried to get Dagger in the pool yesterday to no avail! He did not want to have anything to do with it! I hope in time he will come to love it!
