Over thinking his first swim

I was throwing treats in a pond for a huge koi carp, trying to lure it closer for a picture. Evidently pup had been observing this. One treat ended on a lily pad and then DDog suddenly started swimming, smelling it and eating it while swimming (without freaking out) from the lily pad then calmly swam back. I never expected him to just do it. I had tried it with toys several times but he wouldn't leave the security of his footing until now.
Then he just sat in the water, decorated with algae, maybe processing what just happened?
He did it several times after, just going for a swim. He surprised me in this.

It is just algae blooming in clean water. When the oxygenating plants start growing, the algae gets back in balance. The pond is filled with run off from the mountains. There is a healthy population and variety of aquatic life in there.

My Rebell really surprised me when I took him at 12 weeks old to Las Vegas to visit my dad. When we went into the back yard it was the first time he saw a pool. He made a bee line for it and dove in and swam around a bit. I called him and when he got close I fished him out. Toweled him off and as soon as I let him go straight back into the pool, he loves water.

Ha, ha, WD did just like that at the very same age. You can't believe your eyes when you see them do that and wonder how they ever get over that traumatic experience until you see them do it over and over again.
The GSDs have been the only spontaneous swimmers from all dogs I have known and had. It should go in the breed description :D
