Testing New Lens (New Camera Mark III)

So, I got into a horrific car/pedestrian accident on New Years Eve (I won't go into grave detail). I was taking pictures down the street from my house (Long exposures with sparklers to celebrate the new year), when I got hit by a car. All of my gear got destroyed and I finally got a new camera. I switched from Nikon back to Canon! I have my reasons, so don't ask why :) Anyway, I just got a cheap lens to get my through until I can get my 24-70 again. I did, however, get my Mark III (Didn't skimp on that). As far as the accident is concerned, I spent a month in the hospital, and I'm still laid up in bed waiting for a skin graft...It's bad.

I'm pretty impressed, however, with the quality of the pictures from this cheap lens so far. It's making me happy for the time being. It just arrived about an hour ago and I'm going to town on it already.

I really like the photos especially the second one with the beautiful bokeh which makes your dogs head pop.

I have the 24 to 70 so I understand your wanting it back but you did great with this lens - which one is it? Macro 100mm or the 85mm 1.8? Or am I way off base (smile)

Opps, meant to tell you sorry to hear about your accident and hope you and your gear are all back to normal soon.

Regardless, thanks for the visual treat. M.

I remember the story. Nice Camera body you chose. I'm still using an original 5d. I think you made the right choice :)

Impressive shots with the cheaper Sigma. I never picked up a 24-70, just didn't feel I needed it. I do have the 17-40L, 70-200L, 100-400L, 50L. I want a new body to dabble in a little video but can't justify it.

MacD - It's the Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 DG Macro. Thanks for the compliments :) This lens works for now, but like I said I want my 24-70 back :( This one's okay, the only con I can find so far is that is that the motor is loud

Great photos and you certainly deserve the flowers.

Ahem, yes I see you listed the lens below your post - sorry about that.

I really like all your shots but there is something about not seeing the face of the subject in a well done shot that creates a story in my mind ... what's he looking at - feeling etc.

I am new here and just finding out all the interesting forums/threads and really glad I came upon this one. I have the 5Dll - but mainly use the 7D for the fast fps in shooting raptors .. but love the full frame as well so glad to see you got something good out of the misery.

I had the best of both worlds AND the best in low light situations with my D3s (If you know Nikon)...But I switched to Canon because I was tired of sending things out to Nikon and paying an arm and a leg to have it fixed when it broke. With Canon, you can have it fixed in house and it is significantly cheaper...

Both are amazing manufacturers though, it just depends on your preference...

If you're curious as to what happened to me, here's my little story:
