the dog park that i go to the dog has to be 6 months old.
watch your dog carefully. you don't want him getting
hurt by the older dogs and no, you're 113 lb dog can't
protect him against rough play or being attacked.
arrange some play dates with calm dogs.

my dog never has a collar on at home. be especially
careful with your pup wearing a collar because it
looks like a choker or some type of slip collar.

He has his Distemper and Parvo less then 2 weeks he gets his final Rabies, he has never been attacked and when a dog intimidates him he just goes back at him/her. No fear and he already had his pack, and mommy Golden Retriever is protective, we feel comfortable there. I feel it is important to socialize them early, he'll be close to 100 lbs. in a year, his grandfather was SchH 3 KKL1 he's definitely an Alpha male.

What a sweet looking puppy! I'm glad he has a nice sister to hang with.

13 weeks old he's not intimidating to an older dog. his 113 lb sister
can't do anything if there's several dogs being aggressive. it's very
important to socialize them early and continue to do it when they're
older. you have to be careful how you're socializing. i think
with a 13 week old pup it's better to have play dates with
a few calm dogs. i'm not against dog parks. i took my dog many
times to dog parks. there's 1,700 acres of woods near my house.
the people living around the woods gather so their dogs can play
with each other. there's groups of people and their dogs spread out
all over the woods. the section i visit sometimes has 25 dogs (all
kinds of breeds and size) romping having fun but i didn't go near
the grops of dogs untill my dog was 6 months or so. before that
i set up play groups for training and socializing.

I have to agree that he is way too young to be at a dog park. There are plenty of other ways to socialize him right now. If he is only 13 weeks then he isn't old enough to have had all his shots. You're really testing his under-developed immune system. And I don't say that cause I hate dog parks (seems to be a dirty word here LOL) like most people, I actually frequent dog parks five-six days a week. I just waited for my puppy to be older before taking him. And agreed, his sister can't protect him against a pack. In my experience, dog fights tend to happen with more than just two dogs involved. I saw one that somehow started between two and ended up with five in there. Scary!

One thing I experienced is that some dogs seem/seemed to pick on my puppy the most. Most likely for his age and eventually coming into sexual maturity.

I just love how much it tires him out, but its always better to be safe than sorry:rolleyes:

I've always favored sables but seeing all these pictures is making me fall for some other coat colors !

There have been several pups on here messed up at dog parks that the family was comfortable with. It only takes one out of control dog to leave a lasting impression.

Check out this link on socialization - excellent discussion on it:

While I appreciate all the input my last GSD ruled DP from 2 years on, he was the dominant alpha male. Starting at as young and age he took his lumps as well as as handed them out, more the latter. Rebell already shows the same tendinitis. 5 acres are a big enough off leash park to where if he backs down he won't get hurt, at 13 weeks and 35# he is fairly formidable. I ain't taking him to timid DP, nothing to be learned there.

You sound proud that your last dog ruled (bullied) at the dog park, sounds like lack of training to me. You also seem to be quite hung up on having the "Dominate alpha male". Which is probably why you let him bully, and want your new puppy to bully. Why not take him to a timid dog park? What are you trying to teach? Do you look for non timid parks? Are you 15 and still trying to show how tuff you are? Im happy with my dog having the ability and genetics to help protect if the need arises, but I can see no need for him to learn to protect me from a dog.
