Kessy and Kira's HGH photos
My girls Kessy (v Waldwinkel) and Kira (v Wolfstraum) both competed at our HGH trial yesterday. I just wanted to share some pics and a little bit about our runs...
Kessy has not been feeling well lately for the last 2 months. I took her into the vet about a month ago, and other than testing positive for anaplasmosis, he couldn't find anything wrong with her. To make a long story short - last Saturday she was very sick, I brought her into the vet. We ran every test - blood tests for Addison's, ultrasound, x-rays, etc. Everything came back ok, but she was on IV fluids all day on Tuesday. She's back on antibiotics and is feeling a lot better but she's still getting tired more easily than she normally would. But I worked her on Thursday and Friday and she wanted to work, so I felt she'd be okay to trial.
Her run went really well. She just knows exactly what to do, I hardly have to tell her what to do anymore! It's like she can read my mind. I did lose her a point or two because I didn't position her perfectly for some of the stands, but I just wanted us to enjoy our run and I wasn't stressing about points! But she still managed to get a 90, beating her score from 2 years ago by 2 points.
Here are some pics of her run - it was very foggy!
Going for a grip...

Moving the flock in the fog...
Kira's run was the 4th of the day. About halfway through her run the sun came out and it was absolutely miserable and hot.
She did a nice job through most of her run. She is very young (only 23 months) so I gave her a little encouragement or direction where it was needed, but she's able to work mostly independently in the grazes.
When we were moving the flock out of the narrow graze, they decided they didn't want to come with us since there's a nice patch of clover right outside of the graze. Kira is so young, and is not yet mature/experienced enough to really know how to MAKE them move - and the sheep know this and will take advantage if the don't feel like moving. And sheep don't like hot weather/strong sun. A grip would have gotten them moving, but she hasn't developed a grip yet. So I had a very hard time getting them moving again. But the judge let us work it out, and eventually I got the flock moving and back to the pen. It felt like it took forever to get them going, but maybe it took 5-10 minutes?? It was TOUGH.
Kira's score was a 71. The grip was worth 8 points so we could have had a score in the high 70's if she'd gripped. Not bad for a youngester!
Exit from the pen - her stand was perfect here.

Kessy is a trooper ~ she did a wonderful job!!!! You can see how much she loves doing this!
And Kira - for such a baby and with no where near the training time of the other dogs!!! She did great!! faced with the most recalcitrant sheep of the trial - Meghan and Kira worked through it and got the job done! Just WOW! Even the judge noted her young young age for this title, and said the grip will come as she matures....heck, she would have been right behind Kessy!
Really proud of Meghan and both dogs! Kessy is special for me as I helped Meghan find her in Germany, and as Kira's breeder and co-owner!
