Default What mix do you think he is?

This sweet pup was hanging out around my office for the past week or two and I was able to catch him yesterday. It's been over 100* this last week and my office isn't in a great area (the city shelter is overrun and high-kill). I've contacted the shelter in case someone's looking for him and I took him to my vet yesterday and she said he's about 1yr old and he got a clean bill of health (no heartworms, ran fecal test, he just had fleas). I plan on introducing him to my current dog this evening, after the Vectra dries and we give him a bath.

So - what do you all think he is? He weighed in at 46 lbs - could stand to gain maybe 2-3 lbs. We ARE having trouble with the kennel, but I suppose that's to be expected. Can't figure out anything that will entice him in more than once - food worked the first time, hot dog the second, cheese the third, but seeing as he was a street dog he's gotten "wise"!

Thanks in advance for your suggestions! I hope the intro with Willie goes well tonight.

He is handsome, gorgeous coat color. Very rich color.

You definitely see GSD but what else I don't know?

This is what I was going to say

He is small, though, so what breeds so we know that are smaller and red? Chow, maybe?
And are his ears always that floppy, or do they stand sometimes?

Thank you guys for the responses so far! I see the GSD, too, but he's obviously got SOMETHING else. Just did a brief intro with Willie and "Puppy" just wanted to play play play. It was super cute, but Willie didn't so much want to be jumped on (who can blame him?!). We will keep both of them on leashes when out together for a few days and see how it goes. Daisy usually keeps to herself in "her room" (she prefers for us humans to make the effort to come see her!), so I'm not quite as worried about her.

His ears are always floppy, but not QUITE as much as in the pic. I don't think that they'll ever be fully erect. I could maybe see chow in him - his fur is certainly a very rich red! It's kind of long-ish and coarse on his body.

If we can't find his owners and he fits in well, I suppose I'll need to come up with a name... And get the rest of his vet work done! Thanks again for your feedback so far - I really appreciate it!

Default Red XIII Update!

I wanted to update this a little and post some new pics to see if any opinions have changed! Red has gotten a bit larger and filled out a lot (last check he was at ~65 lbs, unsure of height), passed Pet Manners 1, and is doing pretty well in Pet Manners 2. He is VERY whiny and gets VERY excited around other dogs (we're working on this!). He still has to be constantly watched when out of his crate - he both likes to chew on things other than his toys AND tries to mark inside - but is otherwise a good boy. I got pretty lucky with my street pup!

I apologize for the quality of the pics - need to get some outside so his color isn't washed out and not use my cell phone. He is more red than these pics show and I need to get a clear pic of his tail (it's wagging and blurry in most of these!) - it's pretty short and usually up over his back and curved like a husky's tail.

So what do you guys think? Trainer guesses GSD/chow. In any case, he's my sweet boy!
