After a break for the last 6-8 weeks, the girls finally got to go herding today!
Kessy was first...she may be 7 years old but she hasn't slowed down a bit... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And some of Kira...she is in standing heat and is blowing her coat, so is looking a little scruffy! She's about 16 months old... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And a little bluebird that was hanging out...it looked really cute with the snow flurries!

First off, great pics and beautiful dogs, blowing coats or not. Second, are these your sheep? Not sure when you say "get to go herding" I have a question regarding sheep from another thread, but its not thread worthy in of itself.

Thanks everyone!
Kessy is just unbelievable, she knows what the sheep are going to do before I do. She can head off whatever they try to get away with before I can even react. Today, they tried to take off as we brought them out of the pen while she was holding her stand at the gate - imagine a 100 sheep stampede. But I can just send her after them and the next thing I know she has them gathered right behind me and they are oh so obedient. It did take a year and a half or two years before I was able to rely on her 100% - and it was a lot of work since she is so fast, drivey, intense...but in the end she exceeded all of my expectations. Kira is also developing really nicely so far, she shows such nice instincts and she's always been so mature for her age. I hope the weather cooperates so we can start having lessons more consistently. Nigel - these are not my sheep, but maybe I can answer your question (or can ask the flock owner). If you want, you can post it here or PM me, whatever's easier. |

Wonderful pics! You can see that Kira and Kessy are doing what they were born to do. Both look so focused and in their element. I never thought it would be possible to get a dog to work independently like that before I got involved in GSDs.
Love the cute bluebird too - what a gorgeous little bird!
