Please welcome our new furbaby.
Thinking of naming her wiggles. ![]() Wasn't planing on getting another one but went down to renew Buddy's license and oh boy. Poor baby had been and the shelter for 3 weeks. No one had even looked at her. They said they were probably going to have to put her down since no one adopts black dogs... She looked so much like my Ivan, I couldn't let them kill her. Tasha and Buddy are pouting but they are tolerant.

wiggles is cute! what kind of doggy? happy you saved wiggles!
please excuse my ignorance but what do people mean by no one wants to adopt black dogs? cause they look meaner? just curious what the preconceptions are...i thought breeds was an issue at times. i didn't know that color was too? i don't know...i don't get it. confused here... i know this could end up being metaphorical or some weird political statement but its totally unintentional. |

actually 4. We have Buddy (GSD) 11, Tasha (GSD) 7, Ivan (Lab/BC mix) 1 and now Wiggles not sure of the name. She looks to be some kind of a lab mix. What do you all think? Not sure why black dogs don't get adopted.... it may be because people think they look scary or they just get overlooked. Not sure but it is pretty well known in rescue circles that it is hard to place black dogs. Oops forgot to mention I have one I work with that lives at Safe Haven but he is not ready to come home to a family. Maybe one day.

Google "big black dog syndrome" and be enlightened(or saddened). OP, congrats on new addition!

Sounds like she's finally found her place. Poor girl. I'm always drawn to the darker colored animals. It never crossed my mind to ignore Riley at the shelter because he was a larger black dog.
