What does that mean: heavy? As in, he needs to lose weight? I've never heard that term applied to coloring or color patterns. Curious of your usage here...

I read that as heavy in the color and size of the black. Meaning it spreads out heavily across the dog.

Heavy .. as in a lot of ... black... in the black and tan ... very pretty.
