Default Keefer's turn for a sunny hike!

A week ago I took Halo on a 7+ mile hike on a gorgeous sunny day in the Bay Area, and last Friday was Keefer's turn. It was a little cooler than the week before and partly cloudy, but we still had some sun and blue skies too. So of course, he had to wear shades!

First water stop: "Hey baby, how YOU doin'?"

He had a cyst removed from his head on Tuesday, hence the shaved spot and stitches. Last water stop, 5+ miles in, and my boy is pooped.

Don't you just want to kiss that nose? Here's our hiking spot, in my densely populated, major metropolitan area 'hood.

Beautiful boy with beautiful scenery! I would think they love those shades...bright sun is bad on the eyes.

They do make sunglasses for dogs, they're called Doggles. But I don't have any, those are my Vuarnets. They're about 30 years old, and one side of the frame cracked and has been superglued together, so they're my extra pair that I keep in the car. I wore them last week on my hike with Halo, and just for a lark I wondered if she'd let me put them on her, and she did! So when I took Keefer out on Friday I thought I'd give him a try too.

Neither of them are very good about being dressed up, it took a few tries to get them to keep their Christmas hats on long enough to take a picture - one quick shake of the head and they'd go flying off across the room, lol! But both of them were fine with the glasses on, at least for a few minutes.

And nope, poor pooped Keef had to suck it up and finish under his own steam. He's 80 pounds, I'd be in trouble if I had to carry him! We had a little over 1-1/2 miles to go at that point, and he was fine. I give him longer water/rest breaks than I do with Halo, and usually stop more frequently too, and I pace myself to him, slowing down when he does. On hot days I won't make him wear the pack. He LOVES it, but he tends to wilt in the heat on longer hikes, so I carry our water when it's up in the 80s and 90s.

Keefer is too cool for school!

Keefer... Beautiful hiking spot too! We've got a place sort of like that here called batiquitos lagoon with benches and places to rest like that. And of course, being Southern California LOTS of people, lol! Which comes in pretty handy when socializing my Ollie puppy.
