THose big pom=poms are irresistible to some dogs. I was at a sled dog race once and the lead dog saw a lady with a hat that had a big pom-pom and the dog jumped the haybales defining the starting run and jumped into the air and got that big, soft ball! Of course the entire team followed her, as did the sled. LOL! Nobody got hurt, and the dog was very happy. It wasn't great for the driverr's race time, though.
