WOW ... I know we were all worried about you ... but I am so glad to read that everyone, humans and animals are fine ... I would have cried too ... your shed looked gorgeous ... well, the only silver lining that I can try and think of is when you are redoing your shed ... was there anything about the other one you wished you had done? You can do it with this one ... I know ... a huge reach / stretch ... but I'm an optimist ...
I love the pic of your chicks in the dining room!!!

thanks
![]() Scarlettsmom, no this was a prebuilt shed, filled with my garden and chicken stuff on the bigger side, I can't believe nothing much really 'broke' in the shed itself.. My husband is a hustler, and a couple friends stopped by and helped as well, since neither one of us worked all week, no power at our jobs, which stinks , no work no pay we had plenty of time to work on it..

Oh, how sad! I bet you never thought of trees as the enemy before. Sweet of you to take the chickens inside. My sister lives in NJ, still has no power. From what my mother told me, it was the wind and tree damage in her area that was the worst, for once her basement did not flood, little water damage.
Do you have power yet, or still at library? Hope you have supplies to keep you going for a little bit longer. |

Bummer about the shed.
Will your home-owner's insurance cover it? Glad none of you were injured while the chicks were being rescued. Nasty storm for sure. The tree that fell at Mom's fell right over the drive where I was going back and forth to my car during the storm. Kind of scared me after the fact.

gretchen my power came back about 2 hours ago
![]() Sue, I have a claim in, and thank goodness it was in the paper, that this storm will not be considered "hurricane status" when it comes to homeowners, because if itwas, there is a 4500 deductible, since it's an "outbuilding" I have a 500 deductible, I can deal with that

Diane - glad you, the DH and chickies are all ok.
There was a story of two young boys who were killed when a tree crashed through their house. Big trees in nasty storms are scary!

I have dozens of HUGE trees around my house and I do view them with great suspicion whenever we have any kind of storm. I love them for their shade and beauty, but they can be deadly.
I didn't know they were not classifying this as a hurricane in the areas hardest hit. I'm glad to hear that people aren't being hit with HUGE deductibles on top of everything else. We built our shed in our last house and it was a lot of work. That one you had was clearly well built and it looked great...except for the big tree on top. :/ I always liked the ones that looked like a "proper" barn.

Once upon a time, my neighbors were on vacation, and I was kind of watching the place and we had this kind of storm. They did not call it a tornado. High winds though. Trees went down on every side of their house and not one of them hit the house. It was really freaky.
I have trees over my kennels, and I suppose over the house in the back. Those are oaks. The maples are on the sides and I don't think they will hit the house if they fall -- maybe one of them could. The pines are along the front, and pretty tall, not sure if they would hit the house though. The one that hit the house on New Year's Eve -- yeah ice storm, was a wandering asp three. Softwood and dropped right at my front door, took out my electric pole, and I found out that I am responsible for that pole. And my power lines were all tangled up in that tree. I couldn't call the electric company because all they would do is laugh and shut off my power. The tree was mine, my problem, the pole is mine so I had to call a contractor to take up the tree and he had to call an electrical guy to put in a new pole and deal with the wire. So for three days, I was jumping over a tree with live power lines all tangled up in it to get out of my house. I hated that Asp tree. It would drop little asp trees, and they would sprout up everywhere. I am glad it is gone. I just wish it didn't take my pole out with it.

Oh my goodness Diane, I'm so sorry!!! Will insurance pay for a new shed??
I too was worried about trees falling in our coop or house. I was praying so hard that it would not happen. We have a lot of trees too. Thankfully nothing fell in our yard. |
