Default New Year's Day Snowshoeing and mountain views.

I feel very lucky to be able to go on hikes just out my back door. It was overcast, so the pictures are a bit darkish.

No trails, but we make our own.

Getting out my gear. When I stepped back to take a picture, Gryffon just picked up his ball and laid down facing me, as if he was officially posing. I had nothing to do with it! (What a ham!).

From the house, through the back field,

Into the woods:

At the back fence line, I choose a spot where the top wire is sorta loose and sagging to get across. The next couple of pictures are an attempt at illustrating my efforts to slip through the wires with my snowshoes and poles. NOT the most graceful thing to see.

(It's not as bad as it looks).

I'm through! We just tromp through the woods and clear-cut areas, making our own trails as we go.

Gryffon is already investigating some rabbit tracks. He faithfully carried his Blue Cuz Ball the whole way.

Keeta sticks to the trail I'm breaking, but will wander off into the deep snow looking for yummy rabbit droppings.

Not very often that the distant view of the mountains is this clear. The view was a real treat today:

Now we're breaking trail in the fresh, deep snow, and my camera froze up - not that it was that cold, camera just acting up. So these are the last pics I got. We hiked about an hour and a half, breaking trail all the way.

This is what most of the way looked like:

This is what I see looking behind me most of the time:

Wish I had more to share, I'll just have to go out again sometime and try again.
Thanks for looking!

Wow, beautiful! I wish we had snow. This is the first year that I can remember where we have not had any amount of snow before January. We broke the record for most rainfall this year.

I am so impressed that you can take pictures & snowshoe at the same time! Looks like great times had by all.

Those mountain pictures are amazing.

I look forward to snowshoeing, but I hate dealing with the shoveling. Anyway, at this rate, the shoes will stay in the closet.

Very nice pictures and great dogs, Castlemaid.
