Hi guys, our puppy seems to be a GSD mix, but we're not sure if it's true nor which breeds he could also have in his genes. Someone said that he could also have Rottweiler mixed, coz of his paws' color pattern. But well, we only met his mom, which is a stray dog that is of medium size and light brown. I wonder if you guys can tell?

You'd want to look at a breed that comes in brindle-- Boxer, mastiff, Pit Bull, Dutch Shepherd, etc.

Adorable pup! As Emoore said, it's got to be a breed that comes in brindle. Rottweilers don't. Look around you, what brindle breed do you see the most of? Pit Bull? Great Dane? Boxer? Most likely, the pup be a mix of whatever is most popular in your area.

Hmm I see.
We've got him from a shelter a bit far from home, so I'm not sure what could be around the place they've found them (mom and puppies).I'm very tempted to try one of those dog DNA tests that can identify what breeds can a dog have in his gene.

I've heard those DNA test kits aren't very reliable.
What are the most popular dog breeds in Portugal?

Hmm maybe GSDs, Labs, Huskies, Pit Bulls, Mastiffs, Serra Estrela Dogs and a few other ones (thinking about big dogs only), but I've never paid attention to which are the popular ones.

Your little guy has a shepherd face and the coat length looks like shepherd too. The first thing I thought of when I saw his photo was dutch shepherd. They are very rare in my area but maybe not in yours. I can't see any physical signs of boxer, rotty or pit bull but that is no sure sign that he doesn't have those breeds in his background. He is a cutie and very unique.

He does look sort of like a Dutchie in the face, but his ears are so big and floppy. Great Dane has perhaps played a role in his breeding, that's the only brindle breed with big ears I can think of (aside from Plott hounds). Is he a big pup? It's hard to tell size in photos.
