Tora we adopted from the Virginia Beach SPCA when she was about three months old. She came in with a litter of a half dozen or so that was found out on Muddy Creek Road (very rural part of our city), and she was the last one left. We figure she was born in the month of Dec and this picture was taken last November, so just before she turned 12 years old.

Max we adopted from VA German Shepherd Rescue last August when he was 3 1/2 years old. A very kind lady name Shirley drove down to GA from N VA to save him from imminent death at an animal shelter. He was severely underweight and had heart worms, but Shirley & VGSR got him healthy again, and now he's a crazy ball of fun-loving fur. This picture was taken on his 4th birthday last February.

Trying one more time..lol!
Hershey (Standard Schnauzer) is from a breeder in Florida. She is 2 1/2 years old.
Toffee (GSD) was returned to a breeder on this forum. I was lucky enough to be able to adopt her. I've had her since she was 11 months old and she is turning 2 in May. Their loss is my gain!

Ricca (Left) we got while stationed in Germany. She came from my car insurance agent's mother, who got her from her neighbor, who got her from some friends, who had purchased her from a breeder. All those homes in a span of a week when she was 5 months old. I got with a woman I knew who was on the board of directors for the local Schutzhund club to get the ownership cleared up and to act as translator with the original buyers. She's an amazing dog, has over come her lack of socializing, improper feeding, ect.

Logan, poster child for back yard breeders. Came with everything wrong a puppy could have, and a bad hip on top of it all. CL rescue, pound bound due to facial scarring from TWO dog attacks when he was a teeny pup. The "breeder" couldn't sell him with his scars. He's turned out to be highly intelligent, sweet as can be, and has also over come his extreme fear of strangers and strange dogs. He used to scream bloody murder when someone approached him and got in his space when he was 12 weeks old. At a year old, he's never met a stranger and is the worse guard dog ever.

Kenya - I got her from a breeder as an adult. She is working lines. I applied to a local GSD rescue and they said they did not have a match for me, but the rescue worker had a breeder friend who had a dog returned that sounded like a good match (I wanted an adult dog that would be good for agility and other performance). So, she connected me with the breeder and several months later I went to pick up Kenya (it took a few months b/c at the time our apartment did not allow dogs, so I had to find a house that did).

Coke - Kenya is a one-person dog and I felt bad for DH so we decided to find another dog more in line with his personality. He did not care about breed. I found a GSD available for adoption and we met him several times, but decided not to get him b/c his meeting with Kenya did not go well and they were worried he'd have too much separation anxiety (we work full time). That dog is Samson, who was adopted by Deirdre on here and ironically, he and Kenya are now boyfriend/girlfriend. I kept looking and saw Coke (called Teddy) on PetFinder and knew we had to have him. We applied and went to meet him two days later and took him home. He was from Vicky's Pet Connection, a local dog/cat rescue. His mother was removed from the shelter by the rescue and was pregnant, so Coke was born in the rescue. His original family suffered some health problems and had to return him, so we are the second adopters. He was one year old when we got him.

Nikon I purchased from a breeder. I contacted several show and working line breeders and it was between his litter and a working line litter in Illinois but I chose his litter because I was not sure at the time if I'd be able to commit to Schutzhund, so I felt it would be better to wait to get a serious working line dog until I could fully commit to training and competition. However I have kept up with Schutzhund with Nikon and many other things. I think I will always have both working line and German show line dogs.
