Debbie, from what I understand you're actually better off going with a 40D than a 50D. Many people on the photography boards are very unhappy with the way the 50D's sensor handles noise. There are also many very happy 50D owners so take that with a grain of salt. I had a T1i which shared a sensor with the 50D, and there was a lot of noise in my pics so I'd be cautious. At least buy from a place you can return.

The 7D uses a whole new focusing system I'm just beginning to understand. You can still single point focus which is how I prefer to shoot, but it will also focus in zones and has predictive focus for moving objects. Can't wait to try that out at the dog park. I had the zone focus on at first and just didn't like that the camera was picking the focus points, not me. Once I got it set back to my trusty old center point focusing I was happy. I'm sure I'll see the benefits of the new focusing system as I learn more about them.

More than you wanted to know, I'm sure.

But don't be intimidated by this camera. I normally shoot full manual, but I put it in Program mode (just a step away from Auto) and it was taking gorgeous shots with no thought on my part at all. This is a camera I expect to last me for years (and it better or hubby will kill me).

Aw. Thanks. He looks pretty good in these pics, but you can't see his bony little butt. It's hilarious. And I DO feed him, I promise. The vet says he's fine. Just growing. But boy does he look funny right now!
