Default No I will not train your dog!

In the past couple days I have had a guy bugging me to train his dog. This guy has been nagging the crap out of me! He is an acquaintance who has a "bad a$$ gsd that he got off craigs list from an oops litter of two police k-9's". He wants me to train it in bite work. I told him I really don't have the time. All my free time goes to my club and those dogs come first. Not to mention I do not agree with this guys um... side job and will not give him a "tool" to help with that. So now he just keeps giving me crap about it. He just doesn't get it, because he offered to pay me and he would even put in the "two weeks" to get it trained. People just really don't get it! Sorry vent over.

Two weeks to get his dog trained? Wow, I know you are good, but didn't know you were THAT good!

Seriously though, what an annoyance! Vent away! That is the type of people who give protection training a bad name!

Wow, he is willing to give two weeks for training. What a generous (sarcasm here) man to give all that time to his dog. How the heck do you get an oops litter from two trained K-9's. It sure seems to me that the police officers in charge of those dogs need some reminding about random breeding.

Yes, it's the typical my dogs parent is a police k9 stuff. It seems every GSD out there is from a police k9.

That's my thought. The general public already has an inaccurate idea of what protection training is really about so the last thing I would want to do is put a dog in the hands of a person who would mistreat it. Thank goodness I worked with a trainer who needs to train dogs to pay her bills and I still saw her turning down people who would not use these dogs appropriately. A moral code goes a long way in my book.

lol/sigh

People like this drive me nuts even with basic obedience stuff, I cannot imagine how much more annoying it must be when they pester you about bitework. You get WAY more, uh... "special"... would-be clients in that line, I'm sure!

I feel bad for his dog. Eventually he'll probably find someone less scrupulous -- and much less skilled -- who'd be willing to "train" it, poor thing.

I was worried about this too even though he hasn't given up on me yet. I told him to talk to other trainers (all of which I know and respect who will tell him the same as I did). Hopefully that will make him give up.

Tell him that all he has to do is tie a pillow around his arm and he can train his dog himself.

I don't train in protection but have put alot of elbow grease into my boy to have a squared away well behaved dog. People see the end result & it looks nice & want to go straight there without all the inbetween.

I would be bored & not as engaged training someone else's dog, no bond.

I don't think he's going to leave you alone! lol
