East Coast SDA Trial

Okay east coasters. Ask and you shall receive. Team True Haus will be traveling from California to Pennsylvania to host a spring trial. That's right, Team True Haus has decided instead of hosting their normal spring trial in Northern California that it was time to venture out. So their spring trial was moved to June and will be held in Pennsylvania.

my dogs don't do any kind of sport. they do advanced obedience/rally stuff in a class setting just for training and a little agility in a class setting just for fun. so it's safe to say we won't be going for any titles or competing in any of these events. i'm just wondering if people can attend just to watch. i think it would be pretty fun. or to have to be performing to go? also can you bring your dogs to watch from the side? we're looking for new thigs to do with the dogs and i'm sure they would love it, even if it's just watching.

i also wish our local horse race track allowed dogs in the stands.

You can come watch, but your dog can't. It's partially because of the environment (highly stimulating) and partially for respect of the dogs in the trial so that they all get the best chance to succeed. You don't want to be the guy on the outside of the ring who's dog barks at the wrong time and distracts the dog in the ring and that dog loses points for it. Even competitors who's dogs aren't up, will have their dogs hidden from view of the trial field.

Your dog also won't learn anything or enjoy just sitting there watching other dogs have a bunch of fun. If anything, it will highly frustrate him and he will start to act out.

thanks for the info. what a bummer! i don't think i'll ever be able to go. my wife and i are those crazy people that bring our dogs everywhere we go. we have only left the dogs home alone one time when we both had to go to court for yelling at a neighbor who was feeding stray cats.

Yes I will be there. I'm decoying

If you guys already do high level obedience, then why not enter for an obedience title?

You can bring your dog, but as already said you can't bring it near the trial field. Either keep it in your car/parking lot area. During breaks, you can walk it around but not on the trial field. You must maintain positive control of your dog at all times.

Scarfish you should go, SDA trials are fun to watch! If your dog is doing advanced level obedience and rally, enter for an FO and see what it's about! Can't hurt. If not, I'm sure you can bring your dog and keep him in your vehicle and potty him away from the trial field. At every trial I've been to (SDA, SchH, whatever) people bring non-entered dogs and no one cares as long as your dog is not making a scene or coming near the trial field. You just can't have your dog walking around with you or sitting on the edge of the field watching.
