Hi, guys. Just wanted to let everyone know that Wolf and I are really doing well with Darryl's guidance. We are working on capping his drive during bite work and he is progressing nicely. We have also just been able to take about 5-6 steps in focused heeling without him looking away. He will never be the dancy/prancy type, but he will keep his attention on me. I do not expect to be a National competitor with Wolf, but do expect him to give me as much as he can and I will be a happy competitor. I just wonder what he could have done if I had found Darryl and marker training when he was a puppy?

Awesome! I'm trying marker training but I fail at it, I'm not consistent enough.

I'm working on marker training in PSA as well. I mess it up too! Thank goodness dogs can be so forgiving of our mistakes. LOL..... but it is a work in progress. How old Wolf? What are your goals?

Wolf will be 2 in Jan. He was started in Schutzhund obedience using compulsion because that is what our TD used. In other words, I was told to make him do it. It really started showing up when I was getting ready to do a BH. He would follow me around, but not look directly at me and never happy about the actual routine. I was told that he didn't respect me and that I needed to crank up the corrections. That is when I began to look for a different and better way. I knew he loved me and wanted to be with me, but why wasn't he happy on the field? MY TD passed away, so I had a good excuse to find another trainer.
I started watching the Michael Ellis videos, went to a Dave Kroyer seminar and ended up with Darryl Richey who all believe in teaching through marker training and instituting corrections only when a dog understands his commands and doesn't do it. It has been less than 6 months and I wish I had a video of the before and after. I have a totally different dog now. And the timing is the thing that is so hard about marker training. I found that I was much better at using the word "yes" over a clicker and that my timing is improving with repetitions. Don't get me wrong, I still make a LOT of mistakes, but it is getting better. My goal right now is to work toward the PSA obedience title and to have impeccable obedience from my dog under any circumstance. And of course, have fun in the process.
