Default You walk wrong

That's pretty much what I learned yesterday @ Obie's private lesson His heeling is coming along very nicely. He is still forging/bumping but the trainer said at this stage drive and enthusiasm in heeling is more important than mechanical correctness so she is happy with him. She, however, was not too happy with my walking. Specifically: (1) need to stop duck walking, especially with my left foot (2) need to learn how to pivot and turn in a tight circle. So after working with Obie for 15 minutes she had me put him up and we spent the rest of the lesson with me walking up and down her driveway doing these pivot turns over and over again. It felt like I was taking dancing lessons out there! a 36 yr old man paying money to learn to walk correctly. On a pretty sunny Sunday afternoon. I hope Obie appreciates this

I practice my foot work for Rally (especially) and Obedience with my dog. I want to do the exact same thing everytime and Balto watches my feet.

Good for you practicing your footwork and handling! Of course your dog appreciates it. How you handle is very much part of your communication with your dog out there. When you are consistent your dog will understand faster and perform better, the teamwork will be good..... you're happy and thus your dog is happy!

Yep, I did the same. Paper plate on ground, stay on the plate when you pivot or about turn, learn to lead off with one foot when you want them to heel and lead with the other when they're to stay.

Now you should give agility a shot! I kept telling my instructor she should do all the footwork classes to music, it'll be so much easier!

You're 36?! From your posts I assumed you were in the 18 - 25 range!

My instructor often tells us to practice our footwork without the dog, and she does many exercises with her invisible dog before she brings her demonstration dog out.

Have fun with the footwork! lol.

My homework this week is to do the "T" pivot turn without falling over. Oh, that and work on a closer front by velcro-ing a treat to my err ... zipper area. "But make sure he doesn't lunge for the treat before you release him" Yea, okay, I'll keep that in mind ...
