Default Recall w/down ?

I would like to know, what is considered a qualifying recall w/down? And what isn't?
I'm working on making Isa's down fast. When I recall her she no longer hesitates as she use to but her downs are kind of questionable and I don't know if we would get the points or not. She comes fast and when I say platz she'll down but it takes her a couple steps while haunching down to fully down. It's fast but not a complete BAM to the ground.
When I taught her the down as a pup, I taught her from the standing position and having her sphynx downward while still being on her haunches so she can bounce right back up if need be.
Would her haunching 1-2 steps while going down make her NQ or Q?

No it should not NQ her.

Each judge will apply their 'picture' of a perfect drop on recall and judge accordingly. If Isa were coming in slow and took 2 or 3 additional steps following the command or signal you would be in dabbling in NQ land. If she is coming in fast the judge should understand that it takes a second or 2 for the dog's brain to tell the legs to stop after the command. As long as she immediately acknowledges the command you should Q on that.

What the judge is looking for is an immediate "response" to the command, that may not be an immediate drop with a fast dog.

Also if a dog is fast the judge has to time it well or they will tell you yo drop the dog when they are almost to you. I have been told by a few trainers that I need to the judge that Havoc is fast, he is the fastest dog I have had.

Oh phew, I'm glad that wont NQ her! I was a little worried there. She comes in really fast but it takes her 1-2 steps or I guess "jumps", cause she's coming so fast, to down.
Thank you Kathy!

I'm so glad you asked this question. My dog's recall is super-fast. It is great for Schutzhund, but it makes the AKC drop on recall so hard. By the time the judge gives me the signal, she is basically already in front of me in the down position. It is nice to hear I am not alone in my problem.
