Hi All!
Who competes in APDT Rally? Which Rally version do you like best (UKC, AKC, APDT, etc)? We are gearing up for our first APDT trial. TIA!

I haven't done any this year but did a lot of APDT rally with Djenga a year or two? ago. I haven't tried AKC or UKC so I can't compare! But it is fun, a lot of "crazy poodle people." Not to discriminate against poodles. It's just around here there's a group of women that go to every trial with standard poodles and they have LOUD one-sided conversations with their dogs all day...so I started calling them the crazy poodle people...
It's fun though, nice and laid back atmosphere, everyone looks like they're having fun. I got Djenga's RL2 and I think she was halfway to her ARCH before I stopped going with her. I dislike how quickly the trials fill up. Not sure if it's the same in your area, but they will fill up within a week of entries opening. If you're not on the ball you have no chance of getting in ![]() I want to start trialing with Kessy and Gizmo next year when I have more free time. Neither has ever seen a rally sign but they know all the exercises so I think we'll be okay. |

I've competed in APDT rally and enjoyed it. I considered competing in AKC, but it almost seemed too basic after APDT. I just couldn't see myself traveling and paying for AKC rally just to start out in novice again.

There's not much APDT around here, but I've read the rules and it's the hardest. And I think UKC is a little easier than AKC with one exception. In UKC you NQ if you don't perform a station correctly. On the plus side, If you aren't sure, you are allowed to ask the judge if you need to retry.
