Hopefully, Balto will have his CD and RE next month. I don't want to move up to RAE trialing until 2010, and I don't want to train the Open Obedience stuff. I plan for Balto to start working more on agility for the rest of the year, and see how that goes. (Don't I sound like a stage mom?)
Anyway, just so the both of us don't start slacking on obedience, I was thinking of entering in Novice Obedience (B) trials, maybe once a month, for the rest of the year. Is it permitted to keep trialing in Novice indefinitely? |

You can at least for Rally. Methinks with the way the AKC is with money they would not discouraing anyone from entering, lol. I know someone who would enter a ton of shows and then instead of moving up, she'd just keep her entries as-is so the dog was RN with like 10 Qs, RA with way more than 3 (several wins, some 100pt runs, etc). She wants to be perfect and they like to win ribbons. More power to 'em!

I think you can keep going in Novice B until you get a qualifying score in open.
I think I read that.

Yep, you can stay in Novice B as long as you don't ever qualify in Open. If you enter and trial in open, even more than once, but never qualify, it is still okay to go back to Novice B.

Maybe they've changed things - it used to be that you could show in novice for 60 days after you earn your CD. I haven't looked at the newer rules, however, but I would recommend going to http://www.akc.org and looking up the obedience regulations to confirm it.
They HAVE added on some new titles, however. You can show in Graduate Novice, Graduate Open and Versatility at any time (there's no pre-requisite title to earn). You can check out the exercises required for these titles on the AKC website. If you have a CD, you might try for the GN (Graduate Novice) title. It would allow you to step up a bit. There are also some non-regular classes that allow you to do a level but drop one of the exercises, so if you're having trouble with something you can still get some ring experience, and since it's not for a title you tend to have less stress. Personally I'm a purist, stuck in the old camp of wanting CD, CDX, UD .. *L* .. don't think I'll ever get into the inbetween titles. It gets so darn expensive, too, especially in my area as you have to travel anywhere from 150-500 miles one way for a trial. Melanie and the gang in Alaska

Hmm, amazing. I only keep up on the rules when I'm getting ready to trial .. *L* .. that's why I said it was good to look up the rules. Seems like they change the rules pretty frequently!
I remember when you could only show in a class for 30 days after you earned a title (CD, anyhow). Melanie and the gang
