Default Los Angeles, CA - Prince, beautiful 1yr old looking for a home

Hi all,

We're looking to adopt a GSD and this morning we met Prince. He's not for us, but he really deserves a perfect home!

Prince is a year old purebred American line GSD. He's a nice size, about 80lbs and I believe he has papers.

Apparently his owners paid a huge amount of money for him, but they stuck him in a back yard, rarely interacted with him and didn't let him in the house. He would sit in the yard and watch his owners inside with their 'pet' dog and, because he was under-stimulated, started tail chasing/chewing and so they gave him up.

The shelter he's at has done a really good job of socialising him and he gets on well with other dogs and kids, although he is still quite a boisterous puppy.

He's crate trained and already knows his basic commands. He LOVES to play and loves his toys. We played with him for nearly an hour and he was a real sweetie.

I think he'd do well in a home (not a yard or a run!) where he would get lots of one-on-one attention, love and exercise.

If someone does visit him or adopt him please PM me or post here and let me know - I SO hope he finds a great home, he really deserves it!

Okay, so he seems to be a good dog with a nice temperament, may I ask why he isn't for you?

Sure - we're worried that we're not experienced enough to handle his anxiety issues (the tail chasing/biting).

I got the impression he's going to need someone who will be around all the time, someone who works from home or can take him to work with them.

If he came to us he'd only be alone 4 hours max at any one stretch, but I'm worried he could hurt himself in that time. I'm hopeful that his issues will settle down once he finds the perfect home, but bringing him home with us is just not a chance I'm prepared to take with his wellbeing.

Hope that explains everything!

Just so you know I was just curious Some times dogs do 100% in a home that they feel is there home. My oldest dog is a good example of that. She was brought to the shelter I got her 3 times. I was her 4th home and I wouldn't change anything. I can see why some people brought her back, but I wasn't bothered by some of the stuff she did. She calmed down nicely once she knew she wasn't going anywhere
