![]() I would like to start out by saying this dog will always have a home providing good food, shelter, and the occasional trip for a run. What he will lack is personal attention and love. I was recently accepted into a somewhat prestigious undergraduate program. Unfortunately for my dog, I simply do not have the funds to live anywhere except the on-campus dorm, which obviously does not allow pets. My parents are able to keep him, but this guarantees a life in a crate/fence for at least two years. I simply want him to have a good life, not one spent waiting in isolation. About Argos: He's an intact male, all black with a spot of white on the back foot. He currently weighs about 66-70 lb. and is relatively lanky. He has a great food drive, yet it is unmatched by his ball drive (he lives to play ball). He will play until he can't run anymore, 90% of the time he brings it directly to you, the other 10% he prances around with it in his mouth. He does not hump or mark, partly accounting for him still being intact. He's currently on Orijen adult. Behavior Towards Other Animals: Dogs (IMHO) He's been somewhat socialized to other dogs. He was enrolled in a puppy class when young, and the occasional trip to the dog park proved him capable of being around and playing with other dogs. My only concern is with ownership of "his" ball, which he alone is accustomed to playing with. He has been frequently exposed to four other dogs, one of which a pekingese (who he typically just ignores, a commonality for his actions towards small dogs.) However, he does not like aggressive small (napoleon) dogs, such as boston terriers. Horses My parents do have horses, and he has been exposed to them. From what I've seen, he is not aggressive towards them, just curious. He does not go near them, as he is scared. He will bark at them, but calms down within a minute after seeing them, and ignores their presence. Deer He once chased a deer, though it did not appear aggressive. Cats The one time he saw a cat he was fairly excited and wanted to see it. That's all I can really say, as he has not been exposed to any cat. Small animals He often sees squirrels with no reaction; however, there is typically a crow in our front yard that he chases away when let out. have not tested his behavior with anything else. General Behavior He is very energetic and perhaps invasive to those he does not consider to be his owner. He does pull on the leash very hard; however, he heels well if running. Using a gentle leader harness is seemingly effective. As mentioned before, he responds well to food and is not aggressive in this respect. He knows tricks better than household manners, and is a quick learner when it comes to this. He sometimes licks with a stray tooth. CHILDREN: Due to his boisterous nature, he has not been permitted to interact with many children, as my siblings have toddlers. He has been around them while leashed. He does not mind them and is not aggressive towards them. Health: He generally is very healthy and capable. He had spouts of panosteitis as a young pup, but is seemingly over that (It's probable a case will pop up before he is an adult, as it's typical for it to do so.) I do not know if he has any food allergies, as he's been fed premium foods such as Orijen since i've gotten him. Full health records available upon serious inquiry. I'm willing to drive anywhere from PA to GA to see he gets a decent home. Will get a vet checkup soon to ensure good health. Honestly, I'm not rushing to get rid of him. A temporary trial homing would be very welcomed. Also, there will be no rehoming fee, as I'd rather see it spent on his behalf. I am interested on opinions of my parents keeping him (I know this will only incite the flames, but oh well) if you'd like to share your thoughts, they're welcomed. Serious inquiries should be sent to Aaron6601@gmail.com, more detailed information available upon request. Last edited by Salt; 01-12-2012 at 05:05 PM. |
