I'm not sure if this is the right place to post or not, so please let me know if not.
I am trying to find a good home for my male GSD that is 10 yrs old. I am going through a divorce and we are having to sell our home and I will be moving to a mobile home that has a teeny tiny yard and will not be able to take my big boy. He is use to having a big backyard to run and play in. If anyone knows of a good home in Missouri that is looking for a sweet boy...please let me know. I hate that my situation is having such an impact on my animals...but I am trying to do the best for them! If I am not able to rehome him to a good home...I will take him with me, but he will have to be confined to a VERY small area or on a runner of some sort, which I hate to do to him since he's use to having free run of a big backyard. Please no harsh comments. This is already hard enough on me and is breaking my heart!!! I have rescued my share of animals and never thought I'd be in this situation. I've attached a few pictures of Max. They are not the best because they were taken on my cell phone. I will try to get some better ones posted soon. Thanks, Tina ![]()

Hello,
I volunteer with this great organization, that might be able to help you. The name of the organization is called Missouri German Shepherd Rescue (MOGS) and, if this works, here's their website: Missouri German Shepherd Rescue If you need anything else, let me know. |

no harsh comments here, do understand your situation and truly do feel for you, but do want to express an opinion for you to just think about. if your boy is 10 years old, i have this sneaking suspicion that if he could tell you what he wants, he might say he'd be willing to give up the big yard to play in in favor of staying with the person he loves. even in a mobile home with a runner. just food for thought, no judgement here, honest. wishing you a good solution to your difficult decision. many blessings to you in your current situation. take care.

i have to throw out the I'm 3rd in agreement. Being that these dogs adapt very well to changes, especially with those they love.... i dont think he would mind too much the loss of the big yard for a smaller one. Personally would be a win-win. He stays with those he's known his whole life and you and your daughter get to keep your big ol handsome man. and being that he's 10.... i think he'd be more content to stay with you instead of be stressed in a new home with people he doesnt know wondering when he'll get to go home with his mom and little girl.

Here's #4 giving a thumbs up for keeping this very nice boy. As long as he can get enough exercise - at 10, if he doesn't have any mobility problems he should still be able to go for walks and cover a fair distance - the size of your yard or home shouldn't be an impediment. In the 60's and 70's I lived in New York City - some people had huge dogs (Great Pyrenees and St Bernards) living in very small studio apartments. They did fine because their owners got them out every day, and just went for walks around town. Why not give it a try? German Shepherds are resilient and adaptable - you might be surprised at how well he adjusts, and KZoppa is right - he would be much happier with you and your daughter at this stage of his life. (As an FYI- it is much harder for senior dogs to find new homes than the youngsters, people just don't want an older dog which they perceive (rightly or wrongly) as probably having health problems and a limited lifespan. For that reason rescue is indeed the better way to go than a shelter.)
I wish you all the best whatever you decide - I am so sorry that you and your daughter are going through such a difficult time, I hope you will catch a better break very soon. ____________________________________ Susan Anja SchH3 GSD Conor GSD Blue BH WH T1 GSD - waiting at the Bridge
