As I was searching through these forums I came across a familiar name.
Just wanted everyone to know that this handsome boy has a second chance at a love filled life.
My name is Kristyn. I'm a vet tech in Urbana, Il and I was looking for a GSD to call my own. I followed his story from the start. Back in February I didn't have the space or the time for a big boy like him. Well, I moved, graduated and got a steady job so I looked again. I adopted him almost a week ago and he is such a wonderful boy. He's my little (well, quite large) hop-a-long shadow. If you've followed his whole story you know they ended up amputating that right front leg. I swear sometimes I don't even know it's gone. He's got endless energy and is always up for a game of fetch. Turning to the right is still a little bit tricky and he tends to fall down a lot, but don't feel bad for him, I don't even think he notices.
He's very smart and is quickly picking up a few manners. Like, just because the cats run by doesn't mean you should chase them, or please walk next to me and don't pull me down while on a walk (three-legged and still very strong). The hardest thing for him to grasp is just because the neighbor's dog is barking doesn't mean you have to as well.
Today was the first day he was excited about his food and actually ate the whole thing. Now he has to learn that he should chill for about 30 minutes after a meal. I don't want any GDV's (Gastric Dilation Volvulus, aka Bloat) any time soon.
After some obedience and a little maturing I'm hoping to certify him as a therapy dog and take him to children's hospitals, nursing homes, and maybe to some recovering war vets. What's more inspiring than a three-legged dog?
I'll keep you guys posted.
Kristyn

Handle every stressful situation like a dog. If you can't eat it or play with it, pee on it and walk away.
