pets4life Like you have seen already alex i got toucans and parrots outside on chicks so my girl plays a very important role in their lives, in the wild these flight not fight bird species nest in remote high up areas from predators, here they nest where they like and let her deal w any foolish animal who wants to bug them. The cat does also but to a much lesser extent.

Had a dog attacked (which did happen deep in the woods in another city i was charged by 2 large dogs was scary but they wanted ME not my dog) me yes id expect my girl or any good shepherd to stop the attack and she did very quick.

If i owned a husky, aussie shep, or american rescue type shepherd, show dog or a lab, would i expect the same out of them? nope.

When i Move back on a farm have sheep, goats and birds again would i expect my dog to take care of predators like the gsd from the oldies? Yes if the predator attacks my pets its mine and my dogs duty to stop it and end it. But i would not leave her out with them.

something similar happened to a friends dog a few weeks back -- an 11 year old GSD on line , in heel position -- a big overweight Labrador comes charging and actually gripped the GSD by the throat .
couple of good swift ones to regain control of situation - owner most apologetic .

missleslee one of the worst areas is right in the park in your neighbourhood --- you couldn't find one dog on line to save your life !

carmspack airhorn -- last time I got one they were available at Canadian Tire -- any sports store , hunting , camping shop should have them .

This summer crackdown — billed as a public education campaign and bylaw blitz by the city and Toronto Police — comes as complaints about dogs being off leash have jumped from 130 in 2013 to 440 so far this year.

YES mikelia kingston was nothing like it is here, not many people kept giant off leash dogs there. In kingston there was not a dog every block either.

Mikelia If you do go with a muzzle, a Canadian company called Angel makes some nice metal with leather strap muzzles. You can order one through any Pet Valu. Pit bulls are banned in Ontario so mine has to be muzzled in public - I always have her muzzle set up so I can undo the strap with one pull - should an aggressive dog ever attack I can free her easily. In 10 years of owning her the only truly aggressive dogs have been little ones so I've never had to use my tactic, but I always keep it in the back of my mind.

pets4life omg carmspack you are brilliant! where do i find one of these?

huntergreen if your dog really is a magnet for dog fights, wouldn't the muzzle keep her fro protecting herself? i kow others say she can still take care of herself.....
