I'm on three different forums; the GSD Forum, the Parrot Forum, and the Reptile forum. So many pets.

The large 'Toos do tend to become "Velcro" birds, and develop many behavioral issues as they sexually mature. But the Rose Breasted/Galah 'Too is said to be, not easy, but the easiest of the 'Toos.
I will still work with self-entertaining, I don't want a bored self-mutilator!
Many members on the Parrot forum (parrotforums.com) recommended a Rosie. And they were so right! I love them!

I have a Cockatiel. Sweet little girl, but she prefers the other animals to us humans. Of course, I still love her. We bond a little each day, by giving her treats and talking quietly to her. I know we'll be best friends someday.

HarleyTheGSD Oh yes, I always expect a bite when handling a new bird. I went to the All American Hookbill Fair on Sunday, in Bridgeton, MO. I was bit by a few (Some really HURT), but that didn't get me down.

I did find the bird for me. It is a Cockatoo. A Rose Breasted Cockatoo. I handled three at the fair. Loved them all! Of course, I still have TONS of research to do before bringing one home. The members on the Parrot Forum are being very helpful.
And I think a rescue would be great. It all depends on that individual bird's personality. And before I buy, I am going to spend a period of time handling that same bird.

lyssa62 yes he will!! he is in great shape ..this one was actually just a rescue from a lady who is ill and can no longer take care of him. So not really a bad home environment he came from.
My severe macaw I had ( he passed away of cancer 2 years ago) came out of a meth house and was neglected to the point of me having to irrigate his sinus's several times a day and vitamins etc..he was plucked almost to the point of no feathers -- the woman had him and an African grey each in dirty cages ..her computer desk in between them and when the rescue went in to get them there was no water in either cage...nor had there been any any time recently -- and the diet was whatever she threw in the cages when she felt like feeding them. If I could have had a name and address ..I'd probably be in prison. I had him for 7 years before cancer took him away. The vet had said the anesthesia to do anything for him would probably kill him so she suggested we put him down...even with a bird..that is a very difficult thing to do.
This one is very very healthy and at 16 -- can live to be 60 + barring any health issues....he could outlive my kids!

Pawsed He's beautiful! Looks like he's in great shape, too. I'm sure he will give you lots of joy and frustration for years to come!

lyssa62 My new buddy -- Nova -- 16 year old Lilac Crowned Amazon

temperament -- fairly mellow -- but if in the mood can produce a NASTY bite complete with a good sized hole. Not much of a talker -- does say meow and makes a duck sound ( which could fool even the best "is it real" person)...and says "hi Nova" and 'hello" ....not much into cuddling -- will sit on my shoulder and play with my hair..and try to remove all of my earrings..... can get loud when he's pissed about something. ( not often but he can throw a 2 minute or so ear piercing fit)
