Remember you are dealing with a clinical problem like asthma or diabetes never feel ashamed about talking about it. One huge thing that helped me was exercise, they say moving muscles, especially large ones, has shown a significant benefit in reducing depression symptoms. Also, just something I found helpful I wouldn't think would work for everyone is that I acknowledged and respected the disease but at the same time didn't dwell on being a victim of it- which admittedly hard when depressed; but instead saw it as a temporary but treatable condition I would deal with with out being consumed by it. My doctor is awesome, his prescription? 'Get a dog' he tells me, which is how I ended up with indiana, my 4 year old gsd/husky. Did help much more than any pill and have been depression free since
Thank you that's so awesome that your doctor told you to get a dog.
I have been talking to my family and friends about it, and it helps.

Yep exactly what I was wondering, I am on medication as well and everyone who knows me would say my mental disorder is very real.

I am not upset that you said my age, and I understand why you did.
I know that some of the advice I was getting related to people older than my age, I kind of just ignored those posts, lol.
And a lot of people have told me that this will make a difference to what person I end up being and I definitely think it will.

Bull leave me Xanax will kill you - antidepressants don't make you happy and if you think they do you're mistaken - if it works for you great - keep going but I know better and I'm a badass - my theory is - there out to make $billions of dollars$ and they been doing it since 1957 and it's the biggest con job perpetrated on the American public since World War II.

Sorry David,

SGCSG
Indeed there is no evidence to support the claims that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance and there is no evidence that there is an imbalance in the serotonergic system of people suffering from depression. There is evidence against it though. It's not based on hard scientific evidence but rather just a theory/claim with no foundation to sell a product that doesn't always work - can stop working - has terrible side effects (numbness, movement disorder, improper bone and brain development, suicidal thoughts, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, gastrointestinal bleeding, drowsiness, irritability etc etc) - and that will leave you with serious withdrawal symptoms if you attempt to stop dosage. It's not really understood exactly how antidepressants work but it's simply just theorized. There are drugs that help with depression that don't effect serotonin/norepinephrine levels and interestingly enough, in studies where they gave depression sufferers antidepressants and placebos both worked almost just the same.

llombardo Oh and a big part of growing up is going to be learning that you can't always change things or people around you, but you learn how to handle it in a productive way. Don't ever compare you or your life to someone else's because the grass is not always greener on the other side. Bond with your mom and maybe down the road you can express your feelings and she will understand. Sometimes people just get stuck and can't find a way out and they just stay stuck because they figure that it's the best thing for the people they love.

I'm sure I can find ways to take my mind off if everything. Going on walks with Jaxx or anything that just gets me away form the house seems to help a little. Sorry for not including that I am 16. I've been afraid to ever since there were threads going around saying that minors were getting out of hand with all of their posts(this was a long time ago) I try not to
I don't feel comfortable just posting my whole story about the main reason WHY I am feeling depressed, but feel free to pm me if you would like to know it. So far EVERYONE has helped. Whether they were just saying stay strong, or giving advice, everything makes me feel better. Just knowing that people care and take the time to try and help/give advice.

Thank you so much! I was with my mom all day, so I was unable to call the hotline. I should be able to call tomorrow.
