Sabi did drug detection as part of our training, she got treats for alerting. She alerted by poking with her nose and then looking at me for her treat. Just for kicks I would sometimes take her on the bus, and watch all the people who wanted to pet her get suddenly really nervous when she poked a pocket. We had a family member who actually started bringing treats with him because I complained that his pot habit was costing me a fortune in treats.

But yes, smoke outside.

Msmaria I also wanted to add, I used to spray air freshner to get the smell out, but stopped because im probably spraying worse chemicals into the air. I live in LA so almost everywhere you go it smells like pot. My 25 yr old likes to embarrass me by saying pretty loud "Mom, are you smoking pot again? ", if were in a vicinity that smells like it ....LOL

Msmaria I guess my dog is the only dog who dislikes the smell? And i dont blame him, that stuff reaks lol. My brother smokes pot and when hes over and lights up, my dog leaves the room. So I usually ask him to go outside.

Gretchen 2nd hand smoke is 2nd hand smoke no matter what the source. My dad smoked cigarettes when I was growing up and the smoke used to burn my eyes, make them water.

Also make sure your dog is in a safe place when you do smoke in case you get forgetful or space out. We don't want your dog to get out of an unlocked fence and run away.

Ideally, for your future health and health of your pup I hope you stop this habit.

Freestep I once dated a guy who was a pot smoker. I made him smoke outside, and while he was out there, he'd throw the ball for Luka. Well, you know where this is going... it didn't take long before Luka would start getting amped up whenever she smelled it. We used to joke that she was getting a contact high.

Lol interesting stuff.

If it does them it def explains the eagerness to find them))))))

Seriously though, I doubt it. Usually it's packed and it's inside suitcases or some bags or whatever. I don't get how they smell it at all but I'm sure they don't sniff it (as in powder up your nose) and don't get high

cigarette smoke is much worse.

For sure. My poor dog. I'm a chain smoker.

Pot is not nearly as bad though secondhand smoke can get people high, no?
I wonder if dogs can get high from it too.

That'd be the only thing i'd be worried about. Some people don't handle pot well, paranoia and stuff. It would be horrifying to a dog

katieliz of course, it goes without saying that you keep your animal(s) safe by not leaving anything enticing around to scarf up. cause that's NOT good. but most responsible adults don't have an issue with that.
