Circa Thank you everyone!

Vet visit today when as to be expected. No Torn ACL, but he does have Pano.

Poor pup. Now starts the restricted activity. We hope through training to keep him mentally stimulated enough so the physical restrictions don't both him as much.

Thanks again everyone

Anubis_Star Could be pano. Torn ACL in a pup seems a little extreme.

I would want diagnostics performed on my non weight bearing dog before monday. If for anything else just to give him pain meds and relief. I cant imagine a person on here thay would go 4 days without pain meds if their leg hurt so bad they couldnt walk on it. So I would call other day vets in your area and see if they can get you in. Or maybe call your vet and see if they can squeeze him in if you just drop him off for the day. That way they could check him out real fast between their appointments.

Xrays should be done though, IMHO, just to rule out any other bone/joint/soft tissue injury. A torn ACL won't show up on xrays but by manipulating the stifle (knee) a competent vet can easily rule out torn ACL or not.

Panosteitis usually causes a fever in dogs as well so that could be a good indicator. Doesn't always show up on xrays though.

If it is pano, then an NSAID like Carprofen (Rimadyl) and potentially something like tramadol for pain is really your only option. I've never had a dog so sensitive while teething so sounds like your poor pup may just be really reactive about pain, amplifying his symptoms in his leg.

Circa He is eating fine, just not gaining much weight.

Is there anything to be done for Pano, pain management wise? It doesn't seem like its in any other limb, but it did just start happening.

carmspack any possibility that this could be panosteitis ?

age, gender , and "wicked" growth spurt are usually involved. If so this is self limiting , will go away with time.

IF it is pano , in a few days he may appear alright , then days later feel pain on another limb , a front leg , and then keep rotating on the limbs.

General malaise , lack of energy , normal appetite gone are part of this .

6 month old male GSD limping and lethargic. Please Help.

Tuesday evening our 6 month old pup Circa started favoring his back left leg. By yesterday evening he wouldn't put any weight on it.

There is someone home with Circa almost always. He might be alone for an hour, tops, a day. Even then, he is in a crate. He is never alone outside, as we don't have a properly fenced in yard.

I say this because we have noticed absolutely no trauma happen to him, but he is limping and in pain.

I think it is worth note that he has just had his first real teething round this past week. With that he has been lethargic, super drooly and you can not touch near his mouth without him wincing or yelping. I think that all this is normal, but covering all information here.

He also just had a very wicked growth spurt, and were finding it hard to help him gain weight. He is fed large puppy wellness( vet recommended 4 cups a day) and a half a can of wet food each day. He is very tall, but skinny. At the emergency vet yesterday we weighed just 41lb.

We did take him to the emergency vet last night because he was whimpering when he walked. She jumped right away to a torn ACL before even looking at his leg. Told us we need x-rays of both back legs, full blood work up and possibly more specialized blood tests.

I think she was just trying to take us to the cleaners. We told her we would like to see our regular vet for another opinion. She gave Circa a pain shot and sent us home with pain killers for him.

I called the regular vet this morning, but they cant get him in until Monday morning. As of this morning he wasn't whimpering when moving, but is still limping.

Please, if anyone has experience with this and can give me advise, or a little peace of mind id be very grateful. We are taking him to our family vet on Monday, but im so worried for our pup.
