But i figured i'd ask around for other guesses in forums where you all are much more knowledgeable about a specific breed than i am.
The idea that he may have Mastiff or Great Dane in him only occurred to me recently, as i was going through pictures and we went for his second visit to the vet, and it really set in to be how large he's grown just in the last two months since he's been home from the shelter and how much more growing he has left. Haha. Well, it's a good thing i've always preferred large dogs.

I would almost lean towards no GSD in there. I mean. A lot of shelters will list anything brown/black as a GSD mix, when in reality it isn't.
I've actually met a woman who told me her dog was listed as a GSD mix so they got it because they loved shepherds. It ended up being a 15lbs dog fully grown. They didn't care...but just shows you how much shelters know.

Ahh, who's to really know? Who's to really care?
Even DNA wouldn't be 100% definitive. And opinions from anywhere online are worth just about every penny you pay for them.
Important thing is he really looks like a happy, healthy, alert and fun guy.

Winston the mixed breed
When i signed papers for Winston at the shelter, he was listed as a straight boxer/german shepherd mix. But i can't help wonder if there's something else in the mix because he seems absolutely enormous to be just those two breeds. At four months, he weighed in at 40.6 lbs at the vet the other day. When he first came home, he was 20lbs [at two months] which was actually quite a bit underweight for him considering almost every single rib was showing and his hips were getting ready to. He is definitely part boxer, a dead giveaway considering his habit of boxing with his paws, and the german shepherd is obvious when you see him. But i just can't help but wonder if there's something else in the mix...perhaps mastiff of some kind? I'm considering getting a DNA test for him, just to be sure but..perhaps you all can help me.
