I like when Lily meets the little boy on the leash and the parents start treating them like dogs. "He just wants to say, hi." "It's OK, she's friendly." And then they get all tangled up in each others leashes.
Ah, leashed children are so much fun.

I could only find this much of Modern Family's "Lily on a leash episode." Still funny. (If the link works.)

I will tell you what NOT to do. Once I tried to track with a 33' long heavy duty tape harness. ....... dog took off down the track......fast. When he hit the end I went down.
I have a tape flexi for pit stops when we travel...but that is about it.

|wolfy dog||What really would put me off is a kid on a leash and parent on a cell phone.|

Reminds me, I never get lost, I just temporarily misplace myself.

I guess for me it's what I've seen that creates the opinion. It's not that I have seen parents that are trying to just get through the airport or amusement park, or grocery shopping. It's parents that clearly do not pay attention in general to their child and have it so they can do their own thing and be oblivious to the child.
I can see the points made by others, and they make sense when I look at it like that. I guess it's just the experiences I have had that have made me think ill of them.

I've no issues with a kid on a harness and a line - as long as it isn't a flexi!!! It's the parents' job to keep their kids safe, so if putting them in a harness and having them tethered to you is what it takes, then you are doing your job as a parent.
You know, I don't have any kids - but I have Asperger's (high functioning autistic) - hand holding is stressful for me, AND I have psoriasis and my hands are affected - I'd be a lot more comfortable having a kid on a leash than holding hands for extended amounts of time.
The flexi thing in a crowded place though - that's just not all that bright.
