Service Behavior in Action!

Kaiju has a couple service type behaviors he has been trained to do around the house, primarily with the goal of calming me or alerting me to mental changes such as an oncoming panic attack. The important one in this case is he brings me a tiny stuffed alligator to alert me when he believes my stress level is getting too extreme.

So last night, I started having a night terror (shallow breathing, restlessness, seizing muscles, usually lead to waking panic attacks). Kaiju noticed it, but since I was asleep he grabbed the alert toy and brought it to my roommate, woke my roommate up and refused to leave until he came to check on me and found out what was going on. Kaiju normally never enters the back room, so that must have also given the impression something was wrong. From there my roommate was able to wake me up and calm me down without incident.

I have to say, I feel much safer knowing my pup is literally looking out for me.
