Skywalkers Mom Ive always used a gentle leader. No prongs and no choking. As for keeping their focus it works also. Never used a harness except on deceased Husky for sled pulling. Had a few agressive probs at first but soft muzzle sorts that out.

middleofnowhere Harnesses come in different styles for different purposes. I use harnesses for seatbelt security in vehicles but there are ones for tracking and ones for agitation. There's also a harness to correct pulling on leisure/excercise walks and the otc standard harness.

There's a wide array of collars, too. Agitation collars are wide to encourage the dog but protect the neck. Depending upon the situation, prong collars can be used to encourage a dog or to correct a dog. Flat collars, rolled leather collars -- it is rather how the handler uses it in different situations that encourages different behaviors.

It's what works for you and your dog in what circumstances.

Msmaria I think a collar is good for training, but have never heard using a harness makes the dog aggresive, thats new to me.

Collar device?

I have a 5mo old, and I have been using a harness on him since he was a pup. I have been told that I should change him to a collar device otherwise he will learn to be aggressive? I was always under the impression that collar device's should not be used due to possible throat damage?
