ksotto333 Ours are just starting to come out in NW Ohio...maybe our colder than normal winter slowed them up. Love sitting out in a field watching it light up with them...

Courtney Every year we comment that the lightning bugs are disappearing.

We would also catch them when we were kids. My grandma would give us a mason jar with holes poked in the lid. Then we let them go.

I'm assuming pesticides are killing them off....delicate little creatures

ZoeD1217 Catching lightening bugs is one of my very favorite memories of visiting my grandparents in Indiana as a kid. I don't think I've ever seen any here in Florida.

Castlemaid How cool! I've never seen fireflies.

jocoyn Apparently the target is for SC folks to measure them but I see data from surrounding states. I just got in and had NONE! A few weeks ago they were everywhere. And, of course, when I was a kid I remember catching them by the hundreds.

Nigel Wish we had them here, just copious amounts of yellow jackets and bald face hornets.

onyx'girl They don't show up for a couple weeks from now in my area. I hope they make an appearance...hate to see so many cool insects vanish.

Count fireflies dba Lightning bugs

If you are out at night.....between 8pm and 10pm why not help out Clemson University and count lightning bugs?
