GSD2 Yes, you may want to take a sample to the vet. Black tarry stools can indicate blood in the stool, from farther up in the intestinal tract, the stomach perhaps. People who take iron pills will have similar stools so it may be something else, high iron content in food? Perhaps call the vet and see what they suggest.

wyoung2153 Sample and take to vet? It was likely something she got into in the trash, it doesn't matter that the other dogs aren't bothered, they may not have eaten what she did or they may have less sensitive stomachs. Personally would take a sample to the vet or at least call and see what they want to do about it.

Dark green tar-like diarrhea?

My dog started having this symptom about 3 days ago. I thought it would clear itself up as it started right after my dogs all got into the trash. She is the only one who has it though. The diarrhea is almost black with a green tint, and very loose or tar like. This is the ONLY thing that is out of the norm for her. Other than her poop, she eats fine, drinks fine, plays normal. I'm so stumped about what it could possibly be?
