huntergreen first, i would not leave anything that she likes to get into attainable. not sure why she needs to be crated at night while all are home. as stated, needs more exercise. playing out the yard most likely isn't enough. long walks for exercise and mental stimulation are needed.

If she's getting into stuff when she's unattended, especially stuff that can/does make her sick, she needs to be crated again. I had an escape artist and the airline crates were the only thing that worked.

I think dramatically increasing her exercise (mental and physical) will solve most of your problems

LoveEcho Dogs don't get "mad"- eliminate that from your vocabulary and you'll be a lot closer to solving the problem. She's not trying to get revenge, she's trying to entertain herself (and does so by getting into things that make her sick). She doesn't know she's not supposed to do those things. Yes, she is very smart- that's why the breed needs a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. Crating is only part of the problem- yes, it keeps her safe and contained... but the largest part of the equation is the training and exercise. How much training do you do with her? Do you practice anything like NILIF?

A bored dog is a destructive dog.

huntergreen our dog is only crated when we are not home, for us placement is not important. how much time does your dog spend in the crate per day?

dolljl I am ordering at least two of those gates. And we try at least twice a day and now that it is nice out more because the kids will be out more. We have recently got in trouble with dog warden because we did not have her on a leash. We have never had an issue w her not being on a leash but one day someone else was watching my daughter and did not shut door tight and wind blew it open iris and she got out, but she did not run away she stayed near by the house but scared someone. The next day I took her out w me and the kids and she ran over to this lady again when she was walking her dog and after that called the dog warden.

Is it common to put a dog back into a crate? To retrain her that is a safe place? We are going to put it behind our chair in living room because that is where she always goes.

brightspot She's not mad, she's bored. How much exercise does she get?

ZoeD1217 I'd get one of those heavy duty crates. That's my only advice.
