Castlemaid Congrats!!! Those are nice X-rays, and I concur, great looking hips!

To my eyes, the positioning is perfect - straight and symmetrical.

martemchik Hamburger....What's your point? You decided to talk about how bad the over all hip scores are in the breed even though I posted an x-ray of a dog who clearly has very very good hips. I'm so lost here. I could really care less what your ONE doctor saw in 1988...unless that doctor reviews all the hips in the world, their opinion is really limited.

Thanks for all your opinions guys!

She got an excellent!!! She's the second dog in her litter to get an excellent!!!

sehrgutcsg I am not certain what the protocol was in July of 1988 when: Bogard's RG Maximillian was x-rayed by Dr Gardinia. Max was about 1 year old in July his hips were the best the doctor saw in 7 months, year to date. This is the best information I found so far. The decline of all breeds is mentioned towards the end of the page.

martemchik I have that, I cropped out the info so you don't see it but yes, the original picture has all that.

jocoyn About the only thing that would be nice would be to see the top of the x-ray (wings of hip and the spine) to look for transitional vertebra. ..I think her shot looks better than Leerburg's good example.........

This is a dog of mine (Grim ) whose legs were not pulled out straight. This was not, BTW, his OFA x-ray but a back x-ray for a different issue..The knees look a LOT bigger when the legs are not stretched out. [he was OFA Good and was 8 when this shot was made]

sehrgutcsg [QUOTE=gsdsar;5523506]Huh?? I think the position is pretty darn good for an OFA view.

Can you provide a picture of how you think they should be positioned? I am not understanding what you are explaining.

OP. I would bet they go Good, maybe excellent, even, nice full coverage.

Spread out. Like a ten pound weight on the knees. Stand on the top and push the legs spread eagle outward to the stainless steel table, again my opinion...

EDIT : This will clear the misunderstanding on my part, when I am incorrect - I am man enough to admit it !

martemchik Well considering these were done by THE genetic and reproductive expert in my area...I'll trust him on positioning more than a non expert from Hamburger.

Thanks for all the replies so far!
