katieliz Great to know both Sophie and bear are doing well! Thirteen is pretty old for a shepherd, does she have any difficulty getting around?

Lilie It's great to hear they are doing so well. I would highly suggest you starting a thread here: The Senior Dog - German Shepherd Dog Forums so the folks with loads of experience with seniors can help you out.

AWPER HI Everyone,

Just an update Bear is a big boy now and Sophie is doing great. So two my wifeís rescue friends came over yesterday and saw Sophie. They told us that bear doesnít look like 9 years old. She looks more like 13 years old because of her teeth and structure. She also said that she was abused because she examined her ribs and looks like she had some damage before like someone kicked her. She also said that most likely they used her as a breeding dog because its definitely she had more than 5 litters.

What can we do to make her last longer. She is a very sweet dog . Will send pics once I get them from my wife

katieliz don't know HOW i missed the update with the pictures. thanks so much! somehow, even over the internet, we get involved with caring about some of these dogs and people who are so special.

you and your wife are very caring people. when you are a caring person, you open yourself up to some difficult situations, kudos to you for risking your feelings to help animals in need. hopefully the satisfaction you get from helping will balance out the pain. i think sophie is incredibly beautiful and that little bear, well, he is just way too cute and quite amazing. thank you AGAIN for helping these dogs! post when you can, lots of other caring people here!

Thank you. Its making my wifeís day better. Yesterday on our way home from dinner. I saw a Chihuahua n middle of the road. I stopped right away and my wife jumped out of the car. The lady on the sidewalk said she got hit twice and the vehicles didnít stop. My wife picked her up and wrapped her in blanket, but it was her last breath. She died on my wifeís arms. Luckily my wife knew remembers which house she belongs to because she saw a 10 year old girl walking her two days ago. We drove to the house about 3 blocks away from where it happened and we saw the owner with a leash looking for his dog so he can walk her. We told them we found her on the road about one house away from us and the lady told us she got hit twice. He said his daughter accidentally left the door open. Ever since yesterday my wife been crying and didnít get any sleep
