Security Question
While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, john and his friend sally both spotted a dalmatian inside a truck with sirens, headed to put out a fire. State what the 2x4 is made of.

I started using a prong on my pup and it works wonders. Like the other person said, keep it snug and high up on his neck.. it shouldn't fit loose. I had to pop off 3 prongs for it to fit right. You should still be able to stick a finger or 2 in there while it's snug. My pup started walking with slack and by my side after 2 sessions, but he'll sometimes walk too far ahead and I'll have to correct him. I notice him doing it less and less though with each walk. Watch your pups actions at all times.. he should be focused at your walking or in front of him. You should feel confident and relaxed when walking too. I always correct my pup when we're walking and he stops to try to pick something up, gets distracted and becomes unfocused and alert with he hears dogs barking/other people/other dogs, I lightly snap the leash back when he walks in front of me and gently pull him back to my side and tell him to heel (so he'll understand the cue word and what it means.) Don't be harsh and forceful when you're correcting, a subtle amount of correction should be enough, let the prongs do the work. I also give him a correction cue word when correcting so he'll understand when walking prongless. I also praise him A LOT when he's walking really well.

Also, don't keep the prong on him if you're not using it for leash training. Always take it off when you're not walking him. When he gets bigger and you're still using the prong, have his regular collar with tags on with the prong collar. My cousin told me her pitbull's prong collar broke off while they were walking, so she always uses the back up collar and leash. Good luck!

wolf89871 Ok thanks for the tip I'll try that

scarfish the prong collar will work better if it's fitted properly. you need to pop out as many links as it takes for it to stay snug at the top of the neck. when the dog walks ahead and runs out of lead say heel while giving a slight tug on the leash. ever so slight that's it's only 4 months old.

i try to steer clear of training advice not being a trainer and only have a year of dog experience and 2 GSDs but teaching to walk good is a pretty basic thing.
