autopsy_survivor Try wrapping the metal part with tape or vet wrap if that's what's rubbing the hair off?

For the chest, both of my dachshunds have it to varying degrees. Sadie is bald there, Fynn is thinning. Both are from rubbing the hair off while laying down, dragging themselves along the carpet as they play and hitting their chests on the stairs when they run up (Sadie more so). I tried putting Sadie in a sweater or wrapping her chest with vet wrap when she was younger, didn't really help, so I just gave up.

SummerGSDLover I think it's the carpet. I've got several types of collars we've tried because she seems to be slightly allergic to the plastic clips. So I bought her one with metal gromets but now her hair is getting rubbed off. She's not itchy anymore though. Can't win. Lol

Mary Beth I can understand the hair being rubbed off by the collar and may be a different type of collar may help. For the tummy, I guess it would depend what she is lying on - if it is a hardwood floor or even an indoor outdoor carpet or the crate floor. Some type of soft crate mat or if she will tolerate it - to wear a doggy sweater or t-shirt.

No. She isn't itchy or scratching that I've seen. The vet said it's rubbing off on her chest because she's always lying down.

Non-gsd lost hair?

My lab mix has started losing patches of hair up by her collar and on her chest. The vet said it looks like she's just rubbing it off on the floor and from her collar. Has anyone seen this? It went from hair to thinning hire to no hair.
