TheDakotaShow Just curious how do you train your dog to bark at people approaching and to stop when we are in contact with that person?

Yep same deal here.

Serbrider I don't like my dogs to bark. Thankfully the only things Arya will bark at are Tasha, me, and the cat... when she wants to play.

However, my older dog Tasha was conditioned to bark... by our neighbors. When my family and I were gone for the day, and she was outside, (we know this because we pretended to be gone one day, but me and my dad stayed behind, and hid behind curtains with all the lights off... ), they would yell at her and throw balls at the fence and even rocks and stuff to get her to bark. And then call the police because our dog was barking.

I try to not let her bark though, bring her in when she does, etc... it's really hard for her though, being conditioned for so long that she's supposed to bark at neighbors.

I have neighbors though whose dogs never stop barking. Drives me bonkers. Thankfully one neighbor with the closest and most dogs just moved... So... I can sleep more peacefully at night.

My other two go off at nothing. (thankfully it's not very often.) Leaves blowing, a raven sitting in a tree, most of the time I have no idea why they are barking. The GSD looks at them like they've lost it. It's kind of funny. He does not join in their barking. All I have to say is "ENOUGH" and they will both stop. Except for when the 1 year old was here. They were on high alert and ended up in their crates.

I'm not big on dogs barking just to bark. I'm also not big on kids screaming just to scream. I Have low tolerance for both behaviors.
None of my guys barked at nothing either, Bull/Mastiff and Boxer. Knock on the door or the occasional person in the storage yard behind the house is about it. The barking dogs mean nothing to them.

What are your other two dogs?

I would love to have acreage to. The running joke around here is the "when we move to the farm"...lol...it will never happen, but it's such a nice thought.
