Hmmm... I had not considered giving a dog Vit E. That's interesting.
I just did further investigation and this dryness seems to be mostly on her head, as I find no other with this severe of flaking. So odd.

Somebody awhile ago mentioned vitamin E as a supplement....not necessarily for flaky skin but the attached article does make mention of some benefit for "Connective Tissue Health"...including healthy skin.
Vitamin E for Dogs - Pets
I put a 400 IU gel cap in my dog's dinner every night....perhaps 800 IU might be better for a bigger dog with certain issues. Dog eats the gel cap with her food no problem.

|Freestep||Try adding fish and coconut oil to her food, it may help with the dry skin. A nice bath and conditioner probably wouldn't hurt either, just to help get rid of the excess flakes.|

|Heidi KS||I haven't taken her in for this specific problem. I just noticed it within the last couple days. We've taken her in for allergies and they think it's environmental (outside) because it's seasonal.|

|Heidi KS||I haven't tried coconut oil. Afraid to give her non-meat based foods. Has that worked for your dogs?|

She's allergic to eggs.
I am going to buy some salmon oil.
She's on high quality kibble. It's nearly $70 for a 25 lb bag and pure protein. I don't necessarily think it's diet related. She's also an allergy dog, so we've been very careful with food.

Dry flaky skin
Our soon to be 11 year old GSD has always had a bit of dry skin on her back, where her longer hair is located - along the backbone. However, this Spring I've noticed a LOT of dry, flaky skin on her head.
I'm curious if this has something to do with the fact that she's about to blow her coat all over my house!
She is on a salmon protein food (Pinnacle) and nothing else. She's been on this for a couple of years now.
Any suggestions for what do about this dandruff? It's pretty thick and a little gross because it's visible. Poor girl.
