I really wanted to know Cesar's bloodlines, his training, how he ended up a stray, etc. In the end it really didn't matter--he was such a good boy, all on his own merit. RIP, my big boy.
aww, RIP to your boy

SoCal Rebell My last dog Cutter came with an ear tattoo from the breeder, I later had him chipped. My new one Rebell is not tattooed but he was chipped at animal control at 16 weeks.

Harry and Lola Here in OZ registered breeders both microchip and ear tattoo their pups, although the tattoo does fade after a while.

Glacier My pup will come with his ear tattooed. I plan to get him microchip on his first vet visit.

David Taggart It has a lot to do with regulations. So called Breed Books (the last two digits in your puppy tattoo tell the year when that particular book has started) keep the record for many countries:http://www.germanshepherddog.com/wp-...egulations.pdf
Though, when it comes to breeding, evaluating your dog at both - and show, and Schutzhund competition become more important than any information about pure-bred.
