TigervTeMar before my puppy I bought and read 4 books on shepherds including one entirely on training but honestly I've hardly thought about them. I found using a clicker and treats like cut up baby carrots got very good results. my guy learned sit literally in 5 minutes, although down took him several days. still, he was 8 weeks old at the time. your puppy did not read the books and is going to be his own little self. my advice is to research clicker training or take a class at petsmart/petco. I sat in on some with a friend who had a pug and it really helped using a clicker with my GS puppy. Petco would obviously like if you took a bunch of lessons but 2 or so to learn and rehearse using a clicker should be enough and save alot of money.

good luck!

Longfisher Yes, but use clickers too.

Look up marker training which is a method that employs both.

We are total newbs to dogs and we got a GSD. We have had her for 3 weeks and before we confuse her even more im doing as much research as I can.

Seen this DVD and rhe "your puppy 8 weeks to 8 months" one. Will both these be beneficial to me or will the contradict each other
